There's lots of exciting news to share from Ecstra and our partners this November.

Our Talk Money with Ecstra Foundation workshops featured on ABC's 7.30 Report with students from Bankstown Girls High School! Watch these inspiring Year 10 students discuss the importance of learning about money at school and home as they attend a Talk Money workshop. 

Demand for financial education resources in schools across Australia continues to grow and Talk Money workshops have reached 231,832 student bookings across 6,258 workshops in 1,031 schools to date. Bookings for 2024 are now open.  

Our recent financial education webinar invited eight experts to discuss the current options available to meet this demand, financial literacy in the National Curriculum, and what resources and materials teachers need more of.  

Our new Women's Economic Security Project Impact Report shares the outcomes from our three year project. This includes 32 grants across 23 partners working to address the barriers to employment, financial capability and economic security many women and their families face. 

Recently published research and reports include Women's Health in the North's Economic Equality Discussion Paper, CHOICE's Weathering the Storm: Insurance in a Changing Climate and ASIC's Moneysmart Research Findings relating to Gen Z.

Talk Money featured on ABC 7.30 Report

Talk Money with Ecstra Foundation, our national financial education program, was recently featured on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) 7.30 Report! Year 10 Students from Bankstown Girls High School explained why learning about money is so important to them now, and for their futures. Facilitator Daniel showed that financial education workshops can be both informative and engaging. Watch the segment here

Industry experts discuss financial education in webinar

Our October webinar for teachers, academics and stakeholders explored the role of financial education in schools, the current curriculum connections, and what resources and support teachers need in order to teach young Australians to be more financially literate.

Ecstra launches Women's Economic Security Project Impact Report 

The Women's Economic Security Project was launched to address the barriers to employment, financial participation, and economic security experienced by many women and their families in Australia. The project aims to empower women by providing them with the necessary support, skills and opportunities to help them take control of their financial futures. 

The Report shares the outcomes and stories from some of our 23 partners and 32 grants with $10 million in total committed to initiatives across Australia.

Women's Health in the North's Financial Wellbeing Discussion Paper reviews opportunities for financial capability building in the context of the intersecting lenses of gender and economic inequality on multicultural populations. Ecstra is a multi year partner of WHIN's Lets Talk Money program.

Report: Weathering the Storm - Insurance in a Changing Climate

CHOICE, the Climate Council, Financial Counselling Australia, the Financial Rights Legal Centre and the Tenants' Union of NSW commissioned the report,  Weathering the Storm: Insurance in a Changing Climate  which found that Australian homes are being left unprotected as insurance becomes unaffordable or unavailable for many as the climate crisis worsens.  Homeowners also face difficulties trying to understand complex policy terms and conditions, or simply being able to compare one insurance product to another.

ASIC’s Gen Z consumer awareness campaign – ‘In the time it takes’

ASIC's Moneysmart Key Research Findings relating to Gen Z found young people are more concerned about finances than any other generation in Australia.

To help young people feel more confident when it comes to their finances, ASIC has released a new consumer awareness campaign targeting Gen Z.

The campaign includes short videos that contrast how quickly you can get up to speed with finances against other everyday tasks.  Visit the Moneysmart website for more information and tools and view the clips on Moneysmart's YouTube.

White Box Enterprises announces new financial wellbeing program

White Box Enterprises is strengthening the jobs-focused social enterprise movement in Australia. A new co-designed financial wellbeing program with selected social enterprises is being rolled out over three years. The aim is to equip social enterprises with the tools and knowledge to help their employees improve their financial literacy, decision making and economic independence.

The Centre for Women's Economic Safety is the lead Australian partner for International Economic Abuse Awareness Day on 26 November. This year's theme of Counting the Cost has been selected to raise awareness of the long-lasting and compounding costs of economic abuse on survivors.

Health Justice Australia's 2023 conference

Health Justice Australia (HJA) is inviting people navigating the health, justice and/or wellbeing systems in Australia and internationally to attend their 2023 Conference. This highly participatory event will be held in Melbourne on 23 and 24 November.
