Communities and financial wellbeing

Financial Literacy Month highlights the important role of community led approaches to financial education and wellbeing.

All people in Australia should have access to effective, unbiased financial education and resources, at the times they need it most.

At Ecstra, we support community education programs that bring people and resources together to identify common challenges and how to address these together.

We supported the team at WIRE to build and launch their Financial Capability and Intersectionality project.

WIRE worked with migrant women, international students, and women with disability from various ethnic backgrounds to co design practical money resources that respond to their needs.

Financial capability and intersectionality with WIRE

Every individual’s experience with money is different and generic resources are often not very helpful for people seeking specific support.

The team at WIRE collaborated with migrant women, women-led groups, international students, and women with disability from various ethnic backgrounds to design resources that respond to their needs and priorities.

The project also includes pragmatic suggestions for government and service providers on how to improve their financial assistance services, through a greater understanding of intersectionality.

You choose it, you control it

This project module encourages participants to exercise their rights as an NDIS participant, utilising their funding as a means to support the goals that are important to them. The central empowering message is ‘You choose it, and you control it’.

Be sure to watch the launch video which shares stories of women from diverse backgrounds living in Australia with a disability. They share their views on how to make the NDIS work to support personal needs and choices. Collaborators for this feature are Janet Curtain from Power in Culture & Ethnicity and Nimo Hersi.

Money resources in one place

The team at WIRE have brought together useful resources that are immediately available. This includes an e-navigator for international students to access information on their rights and where to access networks for support.
